Ethereum Holds $2,360 Support as FOMC Decision Looms
Ethereum faces dual pressure from a failed Senate crypto bill and an uncertain Fed rate path, with the $2,360 level now a critical technical floor.
Ethereum is navigating a treacherous macro and regulatory crossroads. The cryptocurrency came under significant selling pressure after the Clarity Act — legislation aimed at establishing a comprehensive crypto market structure — failed a key Senate cloture vote. With Congress expected to grow more fractured heading into midterm elections, the prospect of meaningful crypto regulatory clarity advancing this year has effectively dimmed, removing a potential tailwind that markets had been pricing in.
Attention has now shifted decisively to the Federal Reserve, whose FOMC decision represents the next major catalyst for risk assets broadly and Ethereum specifically. The consensus heading into the meeting calls for a 25 basis point rate hike, with one or two dissenting policymakers favoring no move at all. More consequential than the rate decision itself will be the updated Summary of Economic Projections and the Dot Plot, which will reveal how aggressively policymakers expect to tighten through 2027.

The critical divide is between the Fed's likely signal of two additional hikes — one in 2026 and one in 2027 — and current market pricing, which already reflects three additional hikes through end-2027. If the Dot Plot comes in at three or more, that hawkish surprise would amplify downward pressure on crypto. Conversely, a signal of only one or two additional hikes could be read as relatively dovish, offering Ethereum some breathing room. Fed Chair Warsh is expected to echo his Jackson Hole message rather than introduce new forward guidance, keeping uncertainty elevated.
Geopolitical risk adds another layer of complexity. Oil prices trading above $100 per barrel are keeping inflation concerns alive, reinforcing the case for continued Fed tightening. Any credible signs of de-escalation in the Middle East could push energy prices lower, triggering a dovish repricing of rate expectations — a scenario that would likely provide a meaningful lift to Ethereum and broader crypto markets. Until one of those conditions materializes, the macro backdrop remains a structural headwind capping Ethereum's near-term upside potential.
